Using the same approach as in previous versions with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies, Microsoft will begin the gradual and very slow rollout on Windows 11 on Oct. 5. Initially, the deployment will start with newer devices that meet the minimum hardware requirements and have a good upgrade experience. Also, on this day, retailers and computer companies (Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer, etc.) will begin shipping many of their new laptops and desktops with Windows 11 pre-installed.
Windows 11 is a free operating system upgrade for Windows 10 PCs. Windows 11 will be available for download, once the final version releases to consumers later this year, via Windows Update on the PCs. Much in the same way Windows 10 updates arrive right now. PC makers don't really have much say in the free price tag—that is Microsoft's call. If you already own an HP PC that is running Windows 10, chances are you are very much eligible to get Windows 11 as a free upgrade later this year. HP says that if your PC is running the latest version of Windows 10 and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be upgraded to Windows 11, when it becomes available.
It is expected that most Windows 10 PCs will be upgradeable, considering Microsoft has kept the minimum required specifications for Windows 11 much in line with Windows 10. In this method, you will have to create a bootable USB and manually install Windows 11. It will only wipe the C drive, including files and programs stored within the C drive, and not touch other partitions. So with that out the way, let's jump to the steps. The official, release version of Windows 11 is now available as a free upgrade to anyone who has Windows 10 and a PC that meets Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements.
However, the Redmond software giant isn't pushing the upgrade to every eligible system at once. Some users will be offered the option to upgrade in their Settings menu on or around the October 5th official launch date while others may be waiting until 2022. If your Windows 7 or Windows 8 license is not activated and you are not interested in purchasing a license, then your options are limited.
Microsoft offers a 90 day trial of its Windows 10 Enterprise edition. Windows 10 Enterprise is normally distributed under Microsoft's volume license program for large organizations that deploy Windows 10 in bulk. It's a full-featured edition of the operating system but in this case, it's really an evaluation version of the software. Users must register before they can download and install the software. This option is perfect for those users who are running Windows Vista or never had a genuine license, to begin with.
To put it precisely, if your PC or laptop has a 7th Gen Intel Core or AMD Zen 1 processor and meets other hardware requirements, it will run the Windows 11 preview build. The stable build of Windows 11 will, however, not support these two CPU families, according to what Microsoft has necessitated at this moment. But Microsoft may change its stance at the time of release depending on the feedback that it will get on the Windows 11 preview build. We'll click on the 'download and install' button in Windows Update, and an hour or so later we'll have a different UI with a centre aligned taskbar, a few extra features... After the tool becomes available, you can download it from this Microsoft support website by clicking the Download Now button under the "Create Windows 11 Installation Media" section. Then, you can launch the Media Creation Tool, use the USB flash drive option, and continue with the on-screen directions to create the installation media.
The question many users ask first is whether they can upgrade, or rather downgrade, to Windows 10 if the machine is running Windows 11. As noted in a recent thread on Askwoody.com, a Windows 11 license is a digital one that allows an install of Windows 10 on a machine running 11. But, as a Lenovo support note points out, a clean install of Windows 10 may require that you download needed drivers. Whenever I install Windows 10 cleanly on a computer, there are invariably one or two devices in the device manager that show up with a "!
If you're lucky, as the machine gets online and checks in online, the drivers will trickle down in the background and get installed. If you're not lucky, you have to search for them on vendor websites. Do not download drivers from a random driver site, as more often than not they will include malware.
The "windows insider" page says that my pc doesn't meet the minimum requirements for windows 11 but still i can still install the update through dev channel, so should i still install it? Btw also checked the official microsoft website and it says that i need to be degrading back to w10. So if possible please tell us how to revert back to windows 10 from 11. So if you are an advanced user and want to clean install Windows 11 on your PC, we need to get back to the bootable method. Note that, by clean install, I don't mean erasing all of your partitions and files. This method will only wipe the C drive, including files and programs stored within the C drive.
Older blog but I will take a chance and post my problem. One partition is windows 10 Home 64bit and the other is windows 10 pro 32 bit. When I had a hardware failure I replaced the mainboard with a board that was very close to the original in the sense of chipsets and CPU. Used my original Graphics card , FAXmodem , Hard drives, and memory.
When I powered the system I went to the 64 bit partition first. It activated using the "replace hardware recently" option. I have a second retail win 7pro disc package with valid key but when I enter it, It just keeps saying I can't have two different versions on the same machine basically. The second feature here is DirectStorage that promises to greatly enhance the gaming experience by cutting downloading times of games. This appears to be an extension of the attempts being made by Microsoft with the Xbox Series X/S consoles where it has used clever tricks to greatly improve load times of games. However, do note that this feature will only be available on select games that support DirectStorage API on a PC with an NVMe SSD and a GPU that supports DirectX12 Ultimate.
Windows 11 has been rolled out as an upgrade to Windows 10, with Microsoft offering a seamless process to simply transition to the new version without losing your data. Again, this update is only available to computers that meet the minimum system requirements and are running a licensed version of Windows 10. Similar to the image file method, it also wipes the drive clean, so it is an unsuitable method if you don't want to lose your data. Creating installation media is only useful if you are looking to perform a clean install, removing all existing files and applications. Microsoft has also provided an option to create a bootable USB drive or DVD from its Windows 11 software page. To assure we are all on the same page, the following procedure will update an existing unsupported Windows 10 PC to Windows 11.
On qualifying hardware, this upgrade is performed automatically as part of the standard security update process. On hardware failing to meet the requirements, the installation must be performed manually. The system firmware needs to be UEFI and Secure Boot capable, while the graphics card, whether integrated or discreet, needs to be compatible with DirectX 12 or later. Computing devices with screen sizes smaller than 9-inches and resolution less than 720p will not be compatible with Windows 11. HP also says that the new Support Link page for existing users will be updated to provide more information about Windows 11 on HP computers.
You can use the PC Health Check app to determine if your device is eligible to upgrade to New Windows. Many PCs that are less than four years old will be able to upgrade to New Windows. They must be running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware requirements. The Windows setup has an "appraiser" service that checks to see if your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements for that version.
It's possible to replace the file in the Windows 11 setup with one from an older build of Windows 10. Click Next to have Windows 11 check for any updates, then accept the license terms. The Ready to install screen shows that Windows 11 will be installed and that your personal files and apps will be kept. You can then elect to keep personal files and apps, personal files only, or nothing. This option is for users that want to create a bootable installation media or create a virtual machine (.ISO file) to install Windows 11. This download is a multi-edition ISO which uses your product key to unlock the correct edition.
To download Windows 11, you need to enrol yourself in the Windows Insider programme. There, you need to enable developer settings, after which your PC or laptop will be able to retrieve the Windows 11 preview build. You need to ensure you have at least 60 per cent of battery on your laptop while your PC is connected to uninterrupted power supply, and, of course, ensure you meet the hardware specifications.
The Windows 11 preview build brings a new Start menu, new icons, new startup sound, and other visual changes, per what Microsoft outlined at the event. There is also a new File Explorer that replaces the ribbon with a new command bar that should simplify tools for you. The Windows 11 in this preview build supports new themes, including new wallpapers and both light and dark modes. But with the official Windows 11 installation assistant, you can update your existing operating system without any changes to your data. Your files, applications, even the programs currently running on your PC – everything is left untouched.
With the Windows Update not offering to install Windows 11 on many computers, there is much confusion about how exactly one is to get the latest version on their PC. Sure, you can always download an ISO file and create a bootable USB drive, but installing from such means requires you to lose your files and apps. Click the advanced options link during the installation process and choose to run the install without online assistant or updates. We want to install from the file we copied over and not from a file stored in the cloud.
This means there will be updates to download and install after the initial process is completed. However, it's quite possible to run Windows 11 on a PC that doesn't meet all the minimum requirements. This time, there are major changes in the Operating System with new and interesting features for the users. Some of these include downloading and running Android apps on the PC, Microsoft Teams updates, changes in the Start menu, etc.
Also, the designers have changed the overall look of the Windows that looks more like Mac design. Finish clicking through the download tool when prompted, after which point the PC will reboot. When it turns back on, the Windows 10 installation prompts will appear, enabling you to finish installing and setting up the machine with a fresh copy of the older operating system. You can check to see if you have the latest updates for Windows 10 in Settings/Windows Update.
It's not imperative that you upgrade your system to Windows in the next couple of weeks, or even months. For many people, that's about the time to upgrade to a newer device, one that will come with Windows 11 already installed. Microsoft offers several ways to download Windows 11 manually. One is to use the Installation Assistant app, which you install on your PC to trigger a normal upgrade install via Windows Update. The second is to use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, which automates the process of creating a bootable USB install drive or downloading an install ISO file.
Once you have a USB drive, you can either boot from it to perform a clean install or run the Setup app from within Windows 10 to do a normal upgrade install. You can also burn the ISO to a DVD, but installing from any USB drive, even an old USB 2.0 drive, will be much faster, so you shouldn't do that. Finally, you can just download an ISO file directly from Microsoft's site. If you're using Windows 10, installing Windows 11 will feel just like installing a Windows 10 feature update. Microsoft has said exactly that, which means the upgrade process should be pretty easy.
It's also been confirmed that Windows 11 will be a free update for Windows 10 users, as long as their PC is compatible. The free upgrade will start rolling out this holiday and it has no set end date yet, so you should be able to upgrade whenever you feel ready. That's how you can install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. These methods aren't all of the possible ways to get Windows 11 installed, but they're probably the easiest . Of course, there's no guarantee this tutorial will continue to apply to Windows 11 as new previews and the final version are released. After the download, double-click the ISO file and then double-click the setup.exe file.
Click Next at the initial install screen to check for and download any updates to Windows 11. At the Ready to Install screen, you will see that Windows 11 will be installed and personal files and apps will be kept by default. Bottom line, if you have a Windows 11 computer now and want to run Windows 10, I'd recommend that you first try third-party tools to make it look and act like Windows 10. Reinstalling a clean version of Windows 10 can be easy — or an absolute annoyance if you can't find the right drives for full functionality.
If you can't find all of the drivers you need, you can always roll yourself back to what was installed on the computer. Just ensure that you know your options before deciding you don't like Windows 11. Microsoft said the launch will be "phased and measured," with new eligible devices getting the upgrade first and the rest getting offered the free upgrade sometime between October and mid-2022. Microsoft is making sure that those who purchase a new laptop prior to Windows 11 being pre-installed by manufacturers will be able to update first. Microsoft has started a months-long process of releasing Windows 11 to over a billion devices, but this doesn't mean Windows 10 won't be supported.
The operating system isn't only set to receive a major feature update in the next few weeks, but it will continue to receive cumulative updates until at least 2025. The date that millions of Microsoft fans have been waiting for is finally here with the all-new Windows 11 operating system launching today October 5. Apart from this, Windows 11 also offers what Microsoft calls the Desktops feature that gives the user the ability to set up and manage multiple iterations of your desktop. It's a simple and easy feature to use, which when gotten used greatly improves ease of use. This can be accessed by going to this new icon that all Windows users of the past will instantly notice on their home screens.
This Task View button sits alongside the Start button and looks like contrasting windows over one another. Hover your pointer over it, and you'll see a small preview of all the desktops you have open, as well as the option to set up a new one. Head to Microsoft's official download page to grab the Windows 11 Installation assistant. Depending on the PC, some of the features may not work correctly, or Windows may corrupt or malfunction.
Microsoft also doesn't recommend installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices, and there is no guarantee such devices will receive all future updates. If you create your own Windows 11 installation media -- a bootable USB flash drive -- you can use it to force an upgrade, even if your system doesn't meet all the requirements. Note that you'll need a drive that has at least 8GB and it will be wiped, so make sure you don't have any data on it that you need to keep. Another option is to create installation media on a USB key and install the operating system using that.
